D.150.5 chaise longue, reintroduced in collaboration with the Gio Ponti Archives, is one of the few outdoor furnishings conceived by Ponti. Originally designed in 1952 for the legendary cruise ship Andrea Doria, this piece embodies Ponti’s vision of fluid spaces and furniture that adapts to life’s ever-changing moments, merging nautical elegance with the comfort of outdoor living.
D.150.5 ARMCHAIR GIO PONTI
The D.150.5 reflects Ponti’s philosophy of furniture as an active participant in space rather than a static fixture. Its continuous silhouette traces a single unbroken line, gracefully uniting backrest, seat, armrest, and footrest into a harmonious form. Crafted from solid teak, the chaise longue celebrates the expertise of fine woodworking.

A defining detail lies in the precise radius connecting the seat to the backrest, which is identical to that of Ponti's precisely stated in the construction notes of the '53 Distex now issued by Molteni&C as D.153.1. This exacting geometry demonstrates the architect’s commitment to proportion and comfort, qualities that make the D.150.5 as relevant today as when it first set sail.
