LA CAVA BOUTIQUE HOME, ITALY
La Cava Boutique Home by Fondamenta architects Francesca Gagliardi and Federico Rossi is located in the heart of an ancient quarry where precious stone was once extracted for masterpieces of the Baroque period in the Val di Noto on the island of Sicily. Now La Cava, a holiday home furnished with pieces from the Molteni&C Collection, stands amidst the breathtaking natural scenery as an exceptional architectural project and a part of a UNESCO Heritage site that combines a rich history and timeless modernity.
Expertly curated by the Milan-based architectural firm Fondamenta with architects Francesca Gagliardi and Federico Rossi, La Cava offers a functional blend of technology, efficient design, and unique architecture making it an intimate exclusive home.
Within the distinctive space, Molteni&C has played an essential role in creating intimate spaces that meld seamlessly with the surrounding exterior environment. A thoughtfully curated selection of pieces from the Collection reflects the brand’s core values of tradition, quality, durability, and reliability.
The focal point of the living area is the pairing of the Marteen sofa and Marteen coffee tables by Vincent Van Duysen. The multifunctional seating and storage system creates harmony with an inviting combination of solids and voids that re-write the living experience with a versatile solution. Additionally, defining the space is the iconic D.154.5 armchair designed by Gio Ponti in the 1950’s, re-edited for today as part of the Molteni&C Heritage Collection.

The Marteen sofa by Vincent Van Duysen is a modular seating and storage system defined by balance, flexibility, and sculptural presence. Its instinctive design alternates solids and voids creating a dynamic rhythm and allowing for an infinite range of compositions, from single poufs to classic two-seaters, or expansive 360° islands. Marteen transforms the way communal spaces are inhabited and shaped, offering a continuity of comfort, functionality, and architectural elegance.
Marteen coffee tables by Vincent Van Duysen extend the sculptural language of the Marteen seating system. Defined by generous surfaces and overlapping tops, they create a dialogue between form, material, and volume. Each table can function independently or be combined with others to create layered compositions, offering a dynamic and contemporary expression of individual style.
Nautical furnishings had long been a source of fascination for Gio Ponti when he was commissioned to design an armchair for four ocean liners and two cruises between 1949–1951: the Conte Grande, the Africa, the Oceania, the Conte Biancamano, the Andrea Doria and the Giulio Cesare. His creation, D.151.4, appeared on each, with slight variations in design to match the ship’s interior. This piece captures the spirit of refined travel, blending timeless style with thoughtful ergonomics.
Inspired by the delicate precision of origami, Patricia Urquiola’s Diamond table transforms distinctive folds into a sculptural expression of contemporary elegance. The table's finely articulated legs create a sense of lightness, while the geometric harmony of the square or rectangular top grounds the design in balance and sophistication. Diamond was recipient of the Red Dot “Best of the Best” in 2005 and featured in the 2005 ADI Index.
The Gliss Master by Vincent Van Duysen redefines the art of organization with a wardrobe system that combines bespoke tailoring, refined materials, and thoughtful design. Conceived to adapt seamlessly to individual needs, it transforms storage into an elegant ritual. Every component, from doors and shelves to accessories and finishes, can be personalized, allowing each Gliss Master to become a unique reflection of its owner’s style.
