Explora Journeys, part of the MSC Group, creates luxury ocean liner experiences. The Explora I is the group’s first in a fleet of luxury ships that will traverse three continents, offering passengers a uniquely curated experience onboard in its expansive and meticulously appointed ‘Ocean Penthouses’ and ‘Ocean Residences’. The MSC worked closely with Molteni&C to ensure the utmost in comfort and quality in the ship’s furnishings across the communal areas, Penthouses and Residences.

With 461 'Homes at Sea’, six restaurants and twelve lounges, the Explora I offers a lavish yet intimate experience to discerning travelers. For the spacious living quarters, Molteni&C was consulted to provide carefully chosen pieces that take advantage of the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Beyond the refined dining opportunities, the ocean liner boasts several cafés and lounges that are furnished with recent designs by Vincent Van Duysen, such as the harmonious Margou armchair.

The communal areas of the ship feature Molteni&C’s 100 % Italian-made designs throughout to create sense of European luxury with a contemporary touch. Iconic pieces such as Gio Ponti’s beloved D.154.2 armchair and D. 552.2 glass table in the atrium turn the voyage into a tangible art gallery.

The Cleo sofa by Vincent Van Duysen is a modular seating system that harmonizes architectural precision with inviting comfort. Combining rectilinear, angular, and self-standing elements, Cleo adapts to a wide range of living environments, from intimate corners to open-plan arrangements. Its fluid curvilinear shell envelops the seat and back, creating a sanctuary-like form that balances elegance with a sense of warmth and relaxation.
Gio Ponti’s D.154.2 armchair captures the architect’s luminous spirit and masterful approach to form with its embracing, sinuous silhouette. The iconic armchair was born from a deeply personal project, the Villa Planchart in Caracas (1953-1957) - the private residence of art collectors Anala and Armando Planchart, which they commissioned Gio Ponti to design from top to bottom as both the architect and the interior designer.
The Elain chair by Vincent Van Duysen is a compact yet inviting armchair that embodies warmth and simplicity. Designed with a curvaceous form, this design balances comfort with effortless charm. Whether placed as an intimate accent or paired with other Van Duysen seating elements, Elain transforms any setting with understated elegance.
The Margou armchair by Vincent Van Duysen is a sculptural design that exemplifies a pursuit of aesthetic purity, transforming a familiar seating style into a striking modern furniture design. Its sensuous contours and careful proportions create a distinctive silhouette, while the dialogue between structure and upholstery celebrates a refined craftsmanship.
Originally designed by Gio Ponti between 1954 and 1955 for his own home in Via Dezza in Milan, the D.555.1 small table is a refined testament to the architect’s enduring design legacy. This piece, that never reached the mass production at Gio Ponti's time, is faithfully reproduced by Molteni&C from original archival drawings.

The Palinfrasca Sofa by Vincent Van Duysen embodies a dialogue between heritage and innovation, drawing inspiration from Luca Meda’s original 1994 design. Its instantly recognizable silhouette channels the warmth and elegance of teak while expressing Molteni&C’s mastery of materials and craftsmanship. This sofa embodies a contemporary interpretation of tradition, reflecting decades of expertise and a commitment to refined living that transforms any outdoor space into a sanctuary of comfort and style.
The Palinfrasca armchair distills the defining themes of the Molteni&C Outdoor Collection into a singular, intimate form. Its curved, enveloping teak frame and distinctive macro-scale weave evoke a sense of refinement, while its more compact proportions allow the artistry of design to shine with clarity.
The Regent coffee table designed by Vincent Van Duysen is a collection of coffee tables with three distinct top shapes — round, oval, and square — each conceived as both a sculptural object and a practical surface. Their proportions are carefully calibrated to create a harmonious visual dialogue, allowing the pieces to nest effortlessly and transform living spaces into layered compositions.
