The Suzhou Private Villa – Yan Hui Ping Men Li, located in the historic city of Suzhou, China, blends the charm of traditional Eastern gardens with the elegance of contemporary Italian design. The design vision, led by multi-award-winning Haihua Zhang of Z+H Renhai Design, creates a seamless integration of interior and exterior spaces. Molteni&C contributed to the interior design and furnishings with ULIVING as dealer and project partner.
Set near the former residence of the famed Ming Dynasty artist Tang Yin, this exclusive villa spans 960 square meters (10,333 sq ft.) indoors with an outdoor area of 660 square meters (7,104 sq ft.) and is part of a villa community consisting of 56 luxury residences, each measuring an average of 436 square meters (4,693 sq ft.).

The ground-floor living area showcases the 505 UP system by Nicola Gallizia, a modular furniture hallmark that is emblematic of Molteni&C’s living solutions. In a seating configuration the iconic D.154.2 armchair by Gio Ponti is paired with the Marteen sofa and the Marteen small tables, all designed by Molteni&C Creative Director Vincent Van Duysen.

First Floor
On the first floor, the multifunctional Marteen seating and storage system by Vincent Van Duysen introduces a harmonious balance of solid and void, creating a dynamic interaction of volumes. This is complemented by the Domino Next poufs by Nicola Gallizia, enhancing the space with versatility and style. The floor is further refined by the Prime kitchen Dada Engineered, designed by Dante Bonuccelli. In the dining area, the Mateo table by Vincent Van Duysen, brings a sense of understated luxury.
In the first-floor bedroom, the Aldgate bed and 7070 drawer unit by Rodolfo Dordoni provide sophisticated, elegant solutions, alongside Living Box by Vincent Van Duysen, a versatile and innovative storage unit.

Second Floor
The second floor introduces a more youthful aesthetic with three bedrooms complete with the Ribbon bed by Vincent Van Duysen, the Honey bed by Arik Levy and the Nick bed by Luca Nichetto, all offering a striking balance of contemporary design and luxurious comfort.
Doda, a reimagined bergère by Ferruccio Laviani, and the Freestyle sofa provide additional seating, combining classic and modern influences. The bedrooms are completed with 606 wooden drawer units, the Master Dressing walk-in closet by Vincent Van Duysen, a Barbican chair by Rodolfo Dordoni, as well as a Scriba desk by Patricia Urquiola, known for its clean lines and timeless design.

The top floor primary bedroom showcases the High-wave bed by Hannes Wettstein, a refined centerpiece that perfectly complements the 5050 drawer unit by Rodolfo Dordoni. The space is enhanced by the Pass-word living system by Dante Bonuccelli, a Molteni&C classic, alongside the Breeze sofa by Matteo Nunziati, which offers both comfort and visual appeal.
The Graduate bookshelf by Jean Nouvel, a brilliant wall structure, completes the scene with its architectural beauty and innovative design.

The Marteen sofa by Vincent Van Duysen is a modular seating and storage system defined by balance, flexibility, and sculptural presence. Its instinctive design alternates solids and voids creating a dynamic rhythm and allowing for an infinite range of compositions, from single poufs to classic two-seaters, or expansive 360° islands. Marteen transforms the way communal spaces are inhabited and shaped, offering a continuity of comfort, functionality, and architectural elegance.
Gio Ponti’s D.154.2 armchair captures the architect’s luminous spirit and masterful approach to form with its embracing, sinuous silhouette. The iconic armchair was born from a deeply personal project, the Villa Planchart in Caracas (1953-1957) - the private residence of art collectors Anala and Armando Planchart, which they commissioned Gio Ponti to design from top to bottom as both the architect and the interior designer.
Marteen coffee tables by Vincent Van Duysen extend the sculptural language of the Marteen seating system. Defined by generous surfaces and overlapping tops, they create a dialogue between form, material, and volume. Each table can function independently or be combined with others to create layered compositions, offering a dynamic and contemporary expression of individual style.
In the Domino Next collection, Nicola Gallizia explores the elegance of essential form and the expressive power of materials. Conceived as a family of versatile pieces, Domino Next offers small tables and poufs that can stand alone or fit seamlessly together. The design won the Wallpaper* Design Award 2017.
Vincent Van Duysen's Mateo table ushers in new possibilities, boasting a distinctive central pedestal characterized by a cylindrical and conical shape, vertically grooved at its base. Enriched with fresh compositional options and new sizes (300, 350 and 400 cm), the table stands atop a gently flaring curved base, ensuring stability while adding an element of surprise.
The Graduate bookshelf by Jean Nouvel is a striking expression of architectural precision transformed into a singular furniture element. Conceived as a suspended line that seems to defy gravity, this modular bookcase embraces an extraordinary sense of lightness.
